Parents of Amanda Kanowitz, Who Died From Influenza-related Complications at Age 4
- When Richard and Alissa Kanowitz lost their daughter Amanda to influenza-related complications in 2004, they decided to do everything they could to save other families from enduring similar heartbreak. Richard and Alissa formed the Amanda Kanowitz Foundation and became involved in the Families Fighting Flu organization to increase awareness of the risks of the flu and the importance of vaccinating all children and adults. "I think people need to understand that there are huge benefits to receiving the influenza vaccine," said Richard. "Amanda was the perfect little child, and she was taken away from us because of a virus."
