About Faces of Influenza

The American Lung Association’s Faces of Influenza campaign is designed to put a "face" on influenza, a potentially deadly disease, and urge vaccination every year.

The Faces of Influenza portrait gallery features portraits of many famous and not-so-famous Americans. These "faces"—including national spokesperson, Olympic Gold Medalist, winner of "Dancing with the Stars," and mother Kristi Yamaguchi—are committed to encouraging Americans to get their flu shots and help prevent the spread of influenza.

“My doctor stresses the importance of annual flu vaccination to maintain my health, as an athlete. But as a mother, I realize my whole family needs to be immunized. That's a responsibility that I take seriously, and I encourage others to do the same.”

Influenza is not the common cold—it's a serious respiratory illness. Each year, on average 226,000 Americans are hospitalized because of influenza and its complications, and an average 36,000 people die from this vaccine-preventable disease.¹

You will likely recognize yourself, and your family, friends, and co-workers among the many “faces” of influenza. We urge you to learn more about vaccination, which is the best protection against the influenza virus.¹
